

Apple TV+ has revealed the first footage of its upcoming historical drama, Chief of War, in a new teaser. The series starring Jason Momoa (The Minecraft Movie, Dune) arrives on August 1st. View the teaser below.
The series is set to chronicle the tumultuous unification and colonization of Hawai’i from the perspective of the indigenous population. Chief of War includes a predominantly Polynesian cast alongside co-creator Momoa as lead. Momoa is joined by newcomers and veteran actors alike including Luciane Buchanan (Mr. Corman, Stray), Temuera Morrison (The Book of Boba Fett, The Mandalorian), Cliff Curtis (Avatar: The Way of Water, Fear the Walking Dead), Kaina Makua (Hawaii Five-0, NCIS: Hawai’i), Moses Goods (NCIS: Hawai’i, Stones), Suia Ikal’o (Pick A Side, They Don’t Cast Shadows), Brandon Finn (Magnum P.I., Ala Moana Boys), James Udom (The Sandman, The Tragedy of Macbeth), Te Kohe Tuhaka (The Dead Lands, Love and Monsters), Mainei Kinimaka (Ka Po, The Last Manhunt), and Benjamin Hoetjes (Knightfall, The Code).
The series was ordered in April 2022, with an initial eight-episode order and Momoa attached. Months later, the extensive cast was announced including Morrison and Curtis.
According to the official press release, the series is produced by Fifth Season and Chernin Entertainment. Momoa is listed as an executive producer and will direct the season finale. Co-creator Thomas Pa’a Sibbett (Braven, The Last Manhunt) will EP with Peter Chernin (St. Vincent. Mega Man), Jenno Topping (Can’t Hardly Wait, The Heat), Tracey Cook (Spy, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates), and Brian Andrew Mendoza (Braven, Sweet Girl)).
Additional executive producers include showrunner Doug Jung (Star Trek Beyond, The Cloverfield Paradox), director Justin Chon (21 & Over, Blue Bayou), Tim Van Patten (The Sopranos, The Wire), Jim Rowe (Godzilla, Percy Jackson and the Olympians), Molly Allen (The Equalizer, Niner Perfect Strangers), Anders Engström (Taboo, Hanna), and Francis Lawrence (Gotham, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire).
Chief of War follows Momoa’s successful run with Apple TV’s See, a sci-fi fantasy drama.
