Chelsea Handler Announces Details About Netflix Talk Show, “Chelsea”

Famous comedienne Chelsea Handler has started releasing details about her new talk show that will air on Netflix. According to Entertainment Weekly, the show will be called Chelsea and is slated to air its first episode on May 11. New episodes will be released on the streaming giant every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and they’ll each be 30 minutes and, because it’s on Netflix, won’t be interrupted by commercials, according to Variety.

In a press release, Handler released a handwritten letter to herself, which gave some of the details about her new show, including her dream list of people to interview, which includes First Lady Michelle Obama, Pope Francis and Arnold Schwarzanegger’s maid.

Her list also reminds her to try and tone her jokes down as the show will be streaming in 198 countries and will be available on Netflix until the end of time, as much of the jokes from her E! show, Chelsea Lately, didn’t hold back about anything.

For those who don’t want to wait for more of Handler’s sharp wit, Netflix subscribers can watch her four-part docuseries, Chelsea Does, which chronicles her looking into four different topics, including marriage and drugs.

Handler rose to prominence on her E! talk show, Chelsea Lately, where she’d have a roundtable discussion about entertainment stories and odd stories from the day. She would have three other comedians join here to talk about the stories and that would be the first half of the show. Some of the comedians she would have included Josh Wolf, Ross Matthews and Loni Love. For the second half of the show, she would interview celebrities.

The show originally aired from 2007 until 2014. When her last episode aired, she was joined by many of the celebrities she’d interviewed over the years and by some of the comedians she’d had on during her roundtable segments.

In addition to hosting Chelsea Lately, she had a supporting role on the NBC comedy, Are You There Chelsea, which was based off her book, Are You There Vodka, It’s Me Chelsea. The show aired only one season and was canceled in 2012. Handler starred as Sloane, the sister to main character, Chelsea Newman, who was portrayed by Laura Prepon, of That 70s Show fame.

In addition to comedy, Handler has written books, including 2010’s Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang and 2011’s Lies That Chelsea Handler Told Me.
