According to Deadline, Channel 4 is nearing an announcement of its new CEO after Netflix’s Vice President of Partnerships EMEA, Emma Lloyd, stepped down from consideration in the recruitment process. Lloyd has been working at Netflix for the past four years; she was previously with Sky for 13. Lloyd has decided to remain with the streaming service, Netflix.
Since the resignation of former Channel 4 CEO Alex Mahon eight months ago, the UK network has been trimming down its candidates. Hearsay via Deadline is that his successor will be unveiled as early as next week. Predictions previously cast the two frontrunners as Jonathon Allan and Lloyd. Allan currently serves as the chief operating officer and the interim CEO. He was the first name to enter the mix of possible candidates. During the RTS Cambridge Convention, he confirmed his candidacy when he answered the question of whether he would be running with a hearty, “yes”. Former BritBox CEO Reemah Sakaan just entered the mix of eligible candidates.
Spencer Stuart is the firm supporting the recruitment process, which has been led by the recently appointed Channel 4 chair, Geoff Cooper, according to Deadline. Whoever lands the job has reportedly been tasked with leading the network in “the most important phase” in its 42-year history.
Deadline reports that Mahon is trying to become the director general of the BBC as Tim Davie’s replacement. The applications for that job close at the end of this month. mxdwn mentioned in a previous article that Davie resigned amidst the ongoing scandal involving an editing choice during a news segment about President Donald Trump. In a memo, he thanked the board and the chair “for their unswerving and unanimous support throughout my entire tenure, including during recent days.”
