Deadline has reported that CBS’s action drama S.W.A.T. will stream on Netflix. The streaming service made a deal with lead studio Sony Pictures TV to stream the first five seasons. CBS recently renewed S.W.A.T. for a seventh season.
The first five seasons will be streaming on Netflix in the U.S. on May 17 and is expected to be joined by the sixth season in the fall.
Current seasons of S.W.A.T. are available on Paramount+ until a few months after the end of their broadcast run as a part of CBS’s deal. The first three seasons of the series are currently streaming on Hulu as well.
S.W.A.T. showrunner/executive producer Shawn Ryan (Last Resort, The Night Agent) posted on Twitter when the deal with Netflix closed roughly a month ago, during the difficult renewal negotiations between CBS. Check out the tweet below.
CBS had previously cancelled the series after six seasons, but reversed the decision three days later by picking up a 13-episode seventh and final season.
The S.W.A.T. deal was being finalized with Netflix right as The Night Agent, Ryan’s newest series with Sony TV, was becoming one of Netflix’s all-time most popular series.
S.W.A.T. is inspired by the feature film and television series of the same name and is produced by CBS Studios and Sony Pictures TV. The series stars Shemar Moore (Criminal Minds, The Nanny) as a locally born and raised S.W.A.T. sergeant and former marine, Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson. He is tasked to run a specialized tactical unit, which is the last stop in law enforcement in Los Angeles. Hondo tries to bridge the divide between his two worlds as he is torn between his allegiance to his brothers in blue and where he was raised.
The series also stars Lina Esco (Flaked, Kingdom), Kenny Johnson (Sons of Anarchy, Saving Grace), Jay Harrington (Better Off Ted, Hot in Cleveland), Alex Russell (Jungle, Chronicle), David Lim (Quantico, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Patrick St. Esprit (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Draft Day), and Stephanie Sigman (Narcos, The Bridge).
