According to Deadline, CBS has made the decision to delay their new comedic procedural drama series, Einstein, starring Matthew Gray Gubler (Criminal Minds, Alvin and the Chipmunks) until the 2026-27 season. The series was originally picked up last week for the 2025-26 season, however, this delay doesn’t come as a complete surprise.
CBS previously picked up Fire Country spin-off Sheriff Country for the 2025-26 season, so space is already tight, according to Deadline. It is unclear whether or not this was entirely a scheduling decision, due to budget constraints, or if a last-minute addition to the season pushed CBS to delay Einstein.
Einstein, helmed by Andy Breckman (Monk, Rat Race), is an adaptation of a German series and will follow Gubler as the wayward great-grandson of Albert Einstein, Lewis Einstein, as he’s forced to team up with a local detective, played by Rosa Salazar (Alita: Battle Angel, Bird Box), to help solve difficult cases, according to Deadline.
CBS’s complete 2025-26 season lineup will be released on May 7, according to Deadline. A final decision is yet to be made on a potential sixth and final 13-episode season of Equalizer, as well as Robert and Michelle King (The Good Wife, Evil) led Silicon Valley-based drama Cupertino and a potential Yellowstone spin-off starring Luke Grimes (Fifty Shades of Grey, American Sniper)
It’s worth noting, according to Deadline, that Einstein already has a produced pilot while FBI spinoff, CIA starring Tom Ellis (Lucifer, Isn’t It Romantic), is still being fleshed out and has yet to air a planted spinoff episode, yet it remains slated for the 2025-26 season.
In addition to the aforementioned projects, other new shows coming to CBS for the 2025-26 season include a Blue Bloods spinoff called Boston Blue starring Donnie Wahlberg (Blue Bloods, Saw II) and a new comedy starring Harriet Dyer (Colin from Accounts, The Invisible Man) titled DMV.
