CBS is keeping Criminal Minds going.
Variety reports that CBS has ordered a thirteenth season of the Jeff Davis-created procedural crime series. The news was announced as season 12 is getting ready to finish up in May.
Criminal Minds centers on a group of top criminal profilers in the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit. The series currently stars Joe Mantegna, Paget Brewster, Matthew Gray Gubler, A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Aisha Tyler, Adam Rodriguez and Damon Gupton. Former series star Shemar Moore, who left in season 11, is set to return for the season 12 finale on May 10th.
Criminal Minds is CBS’ 19th returning series to be picked up, following renewals of shows like The Big Bang Theory, Mom, Hawaii Five-0 Life in Pieces, Blue Bloods, Survivor and Big Brother. The series has also spawned two spin-offs, with Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior and Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders. Suspect Behavior, which featured Forest Whitaker and Janeane Garofalo, only lasted for a short 13-episode run. Beyond Borders, which focuses on crimes in foreign countries, is currently airing its second season on CBS and stars Gary Sinise, Alana De La Garza, Daniel Henney, Tyler James Williams and Annie Funke.
The series just won a People’s Choice Award for Favorite TV Crime Drama. It airs Wednesday nights at 9 p.m. on CBS.
