Sci Fi fans everywhere may be pleased with the news coming from CBS this week. On Monday, CBS announced through their Twitter page that new Star Trek was coming.
It was originally announced earlier last year that CBS was looking to reboot the sci fi classic with a straight to streaming subscription service instead of the traditional method of delivery on television. The plan is to air the first episode on TV and then have subsequent episodes viewable only through the streaming service All Access.
You could say that CBS wants, “To boldly go where no man has gone before…” with their approach to make this new series only available through streaming services.
The show will begin filming in Toronto, Canada later this fall.
Star Trek is a franchise that seems to stick with people for a long time even after the shows end. Many science fiction fans have references from past episodes in their arsenal ready to be used in differing situations among friends and fans alike.
“Live long and prosper,” was made memorable by the late Leonard Nimoy who played the beloved Vulcan Spock in the original series of Star Trek. On July 22nd, fans can see Zachary Quinto as the face of Spock in the new movie, Star Trek Beyond.
With new episodes of a Star Trek story coming to us soon, it’ll be interesting to see what the new characters have to offer. Will the new material gives fans the opportunity to add more references to their repertoire? Will we see storylines that work with past storylines?
Variety confirmed that Star Trek vet Bryan Fuller, creator of Hannibal, is going to be the showrunner for the series. He will be working alongside Alex Kurtzman and Heather Kadin as an executive producer. Fuller has experience writing for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager. With that kind of experience under his belt and with him being a fan himself, Trekkies can be assured that there is someone who cares about the quality of the story.
