CBS’ ‘Matlock’ Renewed For A Second Season

“CBS has announced the first fall renewal of the year on Tuesday afternoon. The series is Matlock, and it will now have second season after only two airings, according to TVLine reports.

This is because, according to TVLine, on its Sunday special sneak preview, Matlock received a total of 7.7 million viewers and a 0.4 demo rating, which makes Matlock the CBS’ most-watched series launch since April 2019; TVLine readers voted the series with an “A-.”

Furthermore, according to TVLine, the series, which was first scheduled to air after the premiere, had total of 6.4 million viewers and the exact same 0.4 demo rating. Out of all the shows that aired that night, Matlock had the second-largest audience, right after the premiere of CBS’ Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach shared her thoughts on Matlock and its rising popularity.

“This reconceived Matlock was devised by Jennie Snyder Urman (Jane the Virgin, Charmed) with a brilliant surprise plot twist,” Reisenbach explained via TVLine, “and we knew we had something very special the moment we saw the first episode brought to life by the incredibly talented Kathy Bates (The Office, American Horror Story: Freak Show). The audience reception and critical acclaim for it has been overwhelming. We can’t wait to get started on a second season.”

“If anyone is interested in beginning to watch this series, TVLine has the synopsis available. It reads: “Madeline ‘Matty’ Matlock, a brilliant septuagenarian who achieved success in her younger years and decides to rejoin the work force at a prestigious law firm where she uses her unassuming demeanor and wily tactics to win cases.”

Matlock stars Bates as the main lead of the series. The rest of the cast includes Jason Ritter (Parenthood, Gravity Falls), Skye P. Marshall (Good Sam, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), David Del Rio (The Baker and the Beauty, The Troop) and Leah Lewis (Nancy Drew, The Good Doctor).

Matlock is scheduled to air every Thursday at 9/8c on CBS.
