CBS Casts Justin Long and Octavia Spencer on New Comedy ‘Mom’

CBS has announced they have cast Justin Long and Octavia Spencer on new comedy series Mom, starring Anna Faris, reported Entertainment Weekly.

The announcement came from executive producer and creator of Mom, Chuck Lorre, at Monday’s Television Critics Association press tour. Long will be playing a love interest of Anna Faris, who stars as the show’s lead, a newly sober single mother named Christy, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Spencer will be a guest star, playing the role of “a woman who turns out to have bigger problems than Christy,” noted Lorre. Spencer won an Oscar for her role of supporting actress in “The Help” in 2012, and has also appeared in several television series including 30 Rock, according to IMDB.

On Long’s role, Lorre noted that his character may not realize what he’s getting himself into with his interest in Faris’ character Christy. He said, “that’s going to come up in the first few episodes…poor bastard doesn’t know what he’s in for, but he’s going to be her first shot for a meaningful relationship,” Entertainment Weekly quoted.

Mom will premiere on CBS on September 23, and also stars Allison Janney, Nate Corddry, Sadie Calvano, Blake Garrett, Spencer Daniels, Matt Jones and French Stewart, as stated on CBS’ website.
