Carrie star Summer H. Howell (Curse of Chucky, Cult of Chucky, Clouds) has teased what audiences can expect when the Prime Video horror series returns for its second season. According to ScreenRant, Howell said the upcoming season will provide answers surrounding several of the show’s biggest mysteries and explain some of the adaptation’s changes to Stephen King’s (The Shining, It, Misery) original novel.
Howell stars as Carrie White in the series, which was created by Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, The Fall of the House of Usher). The show premiered on Prime Video on Oct. 7 before being renewed for a second season on Oct. 22.
Speaking with The Direct, Howell explained that the series was always intended to present a different version of Carrie. The adaptation expands the story by exploring the origins of Carrie’s telekinetic abilities and introducing other women with supernatural powers.
Howell also addressed Emaline West, played by Thalia Dudek (The Running Man, Better Man, Prisoner), whose role in the first season divided viewers. Howell teased that season two will answer questions surrounding Emaline and explain why Flanagan chose to take the story in a different direction.
Emaline develops a relationship with Carrie throughout the first season before playing a major role in the events of the finale.
The series also makes a major departure from King’s original 1974 novel by allowing Carrie to survive the events of prom night. Carrie ultimately escapes with Emaline, setting up their stories to continue during the second season.
The final moments of season one show Carrie beginning to accept herself, although the series leaves questions surrounding what that development will mean for her future.
The series also stars Samantha Sloyan (Midnight Mass, The Fall of the House of Usher, Grey’s Anatomy) as Margaret White, Siena Agudong (Resident Evil, No Good Nick, Upside-Down Magic) as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton (School Spirits, Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, Fire Country) as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette (Trickster, My Life with the Walter Boys, Avatar: The Last Airbender) as Tommy Ross, Josie Totah (Saved by the Bell, The Buccaneers, Champions) as Tina Blake, Arthur Conti (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, House of the Dragon) as Billy Nolan, Amber Midthunder (Prey, Legion, Roswell, New Mexico) as Miss Desjardin and Matthew Lillard (Scream, Scooby-Doo, Five Nights at Freddy’s) as Principal Grayle.
A premiere date for Carrie season two has not yet been announced.
