C.S. Lee Cast as Character From ‘Karate Kid’ in Netflix’s ‘Cobra Kai’

According to Deadline, Netflix’s Cobra Kai has added C.S. Lee (Come As You Are, East New York) to the cast. The upcoming season will be the sixth and final of the series.

Lee will be portraying a role from The Karate Kid. His character, Master Kim Sun Young, was seen in Jun Chong’s flashbacks in The Karate Kid and Don Lee’s flashbacks in Cobra Kai. It is not known if Lee’s portrayal of the character will stay in flashbacks as Master Kim is presumed to be dead.

Master Kim’s granddaughter, Kim Da-Eun, is already featured in Cobra Kai. She was introduced in season five and is played by Alicia Hannah-Kim (Two and a Half Men, Hot in Cleveland). Her character became a part of the story when she is requested by Terry Silver, played by Thomas Ian Griffith (Vampires, The Karate Kid Part III), who was trained by Master Kim with John Kreese, played by Martin Kove (Cagney & Lacey, The Karate Kid Part II). Master Kim invented a ruthless martial arts style known as The Way of the Fist, which is antithetical to what Pat Morita’s (Happy Days, Sanford and Son) Mr. Miyagi teaches.

The sixth season was announced as the final of the series in January, Deadline reports. The season was initially set to premiere on Netflix in December of 2023 but had been delayed due to the WGA strike, which began in May. The strike ended on September 27 and the writers of the series recently reconvened. According to Deadline, filming will likely begin in early 2024.

Cobra Kai stars Ralph Macchia (The Outsiders, My Cousin Vinny) as Daniel LaRusso, William Zabka (Just One of the Guys, Hot Tub Time Machine) as Xolo Maridueña, Johnny Lawrence (Blue Beetle, Parenthood) as Miguel Diaz, Tanner Buchanan (Game Shakers, Girl Meets World) as Robby Keene, Jacob Bertrand (Ready Player One, Kirby Buckets) as Eli Moskowitz, and Peyton List (School Spirits, Jessie) as Tory Nichols.
