Stranger Things: The First Shadow will begin performances at the Marquis Theatre on March 28, 2025, with an official opening night set for April 22.

The play serves as a prequel to the events of the Netflix series, based on an original story by the Duffer Brothers (Stranger Things, Wayward Pines), Jack Thorne (His Dark Material, The Eddy) and Kate Trefry (Fear Street: Part Three, Drive). Directed by Stephen Daldry (The Crown, Billy Elliot), with co-direction by Justin Martin (The Crown, The Birthday), the production debuted in the West End in December 2023, where it is still running.”

The production team provided the plot: “Before the world turned upside down. Hawkins, 1959: a regular town with regular worries. Young Jim Hopper’s car won’t start, Bob Newby’s sister won’t take his radio show seriously, and Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and get the hell out of town. When new student Henry Creel arrives, his family finds that a fresh start isn’t so easy … and the shadows of the past have a very long reach.”

In addition to his role as George O’Malley on Grey’s Anatomy, Knight has previously appeared on Broadway in A Life in the Theatre, It’s Only A Play, Noises Off and Tartuffe.

With a talented cast and an intriguing prequel story, Stranger Things: The First Shadow promises to bring the eerie world of Hawkins to life on Broadway. As Knight makes his highly anticipated stage debut alongside a dynamic ensemble, audiences can look forward to an exciting new chapter in the Stranger Things universe. Set to captivate theatergoers in March 2025, the production’s mix of familiar characters and fresh faces ensures that it will be one of the most talked-about Broadway events of the year. With the creative minds of the Duffer Brothers and a seasoned team behind the scenes, Stranger Things: The First Shadow is bound to leave a lasting impression.
