According to Deadline, Bright Young Women by Jessica Knoll is being adapted into a television series. The series will be brought to fruition by Erik Feig’ Picturestart, Fifth Season, and Bruna Papandrea’s Made Up Stories. Knoll, the author of the book, will continue to give her insight on the series as an executive producer.
Bright Young Women, a New York Times Best Seller, is a story based upon a sorority that was terrorized by Ted Bundy. In the story, two separate women become entangled in Bundy’s rampage. The book showcases how they become allies to each other amidst the killings. According to The Washington Post, Bright Young Women features head-strong and responsible Pamela Shumacher as the primary protagonist who is serving as an witness in Bundy’s killings. The book also reveals the perspective of Tina Cannon, a fiery young woman attempting to uncover the disappearance of her friend Ruth. As the these two girls find their way toward the truth, they become intertwined in their pursuit.
Deadline states that this will be a reunion between Knoll, Picturestart, and Made Up Stories as both companies helped with Knoll’s previous book-turned-movie; Luckiest Girl Alive. This gives audiences high hopes because Luckiest Girl Alive ended up being the number one movie to premiere on Netflix in October.
Fans of Knoll are anxious to see this adaptation unfold via sets, cameras and actors. Along with the fans, Deadline reports that Knoll herself, being repped by CAA, is excited to have her voice portrayed in the show and that she has always wanted to be a screen-writer.
Few stories give voice to the victims rather than the perpetrator, says The Washington Post. This is what makes Bright Young Woman stand out as a scripted show based upon true events when compared to others that have come before it.
