‘Bridgerton’ Star Regé-Jean Page Wins First NAACP Image Award

Bridgerton has officially won its first acting award thanks to breakout star Regé-Jean Page (For the People). According to Deadline, Page won his award for Outstanding Actor in Drama Series for his performance as Simon, The Duke of Hastings, in Netflix and Shondaland’s hit series.

Bridgerton, which premiered Christmas Day last year, has broken numerous records for Netflix, garnering the viewership of a reported 82 million households, via IndieWire. The series, which follows the dramatic love story between Page’s Simon and Phoebe Dynevor’s (Younger) Daphne, and has been praised for being a period drama with diverse casting.

Upon receiving his award, Page expressed his gratitude, stating “it is the highest honor to represent us in our glamour, in our royalty. I will do my absolute best to be worthy of that.” He continued, “I think I see my job as a representative job…you are representing the world around you, you represent the political climate around you. That is integral into how we navigate together.” (Deadline)

According to Deadline, Page beat out fellow nominees This Is Us‘ Sterling K. Brown (Frozen II), Lovecraft Country’s Jonathan Majors (The Last Black Man in San Fransisco), Greenleaf’s Keith David (The Princess and the Frog), and P-Valley’s Nicco Annan (All About the Afterglow). Page has been nominated for the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards in the same category. Additionally, the entire cast of Bridgerton has been nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.

Thanks to the wild success of its first season, Bridgerton has already been renewed for second season. The second book of the Bridgerton series written by Julia Quinn (author, The Duke and I), The Viscount Who Loved Me, will serve as the source material for the second season. Bridgerton is expected to begin filming its second season sometime this spring.
