‘Breaking Bad’ Actor R.J. Mitte’s Mother Issues Statement In Wake Of His Passing

Actor R.J. Mitte’s (Breaking Bad) mother, Dyna Mitte, has been dealing with the impact of his death. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she went on an interview to talk about the speculation on her son’s finances, career, and fiancée. She wanted to honor her only son and give advice to families to be there for their children.

In Brownsville, Texas, people paid tribute to the actor at Celebration of Life ceremony. Dyna focused on mourning her son and supporting her other child, Lacianne Carriere. She didn’t speak at the ceremony as it was already hard to plan the ceremony to celebrate her son’s life, so she wasn’t prepared to make a speech in front of people. In the interview, she talks about how her son’s career had taken a dive from his big role as Walter Jr. on Breaking Bad. He was able to be in three movies this year with two more coming out, including Talking to Strangers (2026) and One Eye Open (2026). There was a lot to look forward to, so what happened to her son was unexpected.

Then Dyna talks about R.J.’s personal life with his finance situation happening years ago and was resolved before his death. There were also struggles with him and His fiancée, but their conversations were private between them. It isn’t clear on who was invited to the funeral, or if his fiancée came but Dyna didn’t disclose any more information other than that.

Dyna recollects that many producers and directors that worked with R.J. wanted to come to the ceremony. He learned different filmmaking departments on Breaking Bad, such as producer, director, cinematographer, actor, lighting, and camera.

In her interview, Dyna says: “It’s important for parents to realize that there may be big signs or small signs. If you notice, even in conversation, that there are struggles or questions, be really in tune with your children and take the steps you can to help.”

Dyna continues to say: “In the first few days, I received more than a thousand messages. People weren’t asking for details. They were telling me what R.J. had meant to them. One person said, ‘You’ll never know. I met your son on the street, and you’ll never know how he changed my life.’ Another person said they met R.J. at a college while contemplating suicide, and by the end of their interaction, they felt able to make it another day. People from other countries called to talk about the impact he had made. He traveled to Lithuania to speak about disabilities in education, to Russia to speak about disabilities in the workplace and to Washington, D.C., to lobby for disability rights. For the first couple of days, there was almost no sleep. I was inundated with people sharing his accomplishments, and I had to sit back and realize, ‘My son did this. My son was able to change lives.’”

Dyna closes with saying to all families: “Even if you think your child needs counseling— whether they want to go or not, whether they’re an adult or a minor – you find a way to get them there. That would be my biggest message. Listen to your children. Watch for the signs. Be in tune with them, be there for them and be willing to get help when it’s needed.”

Corabella Garrey: I have been interested in writing for a long time. It is exciting to figure what one should do for the rest of their life, so it came as a surprise when it just came to me to be a writer. I dreamt about being on a set a few years back, making me question how films were made and how they were written out. I started writing scripts and short stories non-stop, sharing them with friends and captivating the professional creativity it can bring to my life. I overcame the struggle to make scripts and other cinema projects while on a deadline by organizing my time responsibly and approaching each task one at a time to be completed. I went to high school at St. Francis in Grand Traverse County and now am graduating from University of Iowa. I went on Study Abroad in Paris and took Advanced Screenwriting to help my writing abilities grow and learn more of film’s cultural influence around the world. As a hobby, I have taken up poetry and have found it to be satisfying to do as it gets my wonderful thoughts and ideas written down on paper.
