Gillian Anderson, from X-Files and American Gods, will star in a Netflix original series Sex Education. Anderson will play as a sex therapist. This series comes after her role in FOX’s The X-Files, which he has decided to move on from. She had also left American Gods once both showrunners (Bryan Fuller and Michael Green) were pushed out. In Sex Education, Anderson will be joined by Ender’s Game star Asa Butterfield, whom will play as her son.
Butterfield plays as Otis Thompson. He is a socially awkward high school virgin living with his sex therapist mom (Anderson). He and Maeve (a “whip smart bad girl”) come together to create a clinic which deals with their fellow students’ weird and wonderful problems.
The series itself is described as a coming of awkward age dramedy. It was created by Laurie Nunn and being produced in the United Kingdom and launching in 2019. Executive producers for the series are Jamie Campbell and Joel Wilson (co-founders for Eleven Film). Ben Taylor (Catastrophe) will serve as both a director and executive producer.
The rest of the cast will be: Ncuti Gatwa (Stonemouth), Connor Swindells (Harlots), and Kedar Williams-Stirling (Will).
