‘Black Bird’ Lead Taron Egerton and Dennis Lehane to Reunite in ‘Firebug’ for Apple TV+

According to Variety, Apple TV+ has given the green light to the drama series Firebug. The series is created by Dennis Lehane (Black Bird) and stars Taron Egerton (Rocketman). Firebug will be produced by Apple Studios.

Firebug follows an arson investigator, played by Egerton, and a detective on the hunt for two serial arsonists. The series is based on real events as covered in Truth Media’s Firebug podcast, hosted by Kary Antholis (One Survivor Remembers), via Variety

Executive producers of the series include Eden Productions’ Egerton and Richard Pepler (The Problem with Jon Stewart); Bradley Thomas (Soldier Boyz) through Imperative Entertainment, and Antholis for Crime Story Media. Egerton, Pepler, Lehane, Antholis and Thomas previously collaborated on the Black Bird series, which premiered on Apple TV+ in July of this year.

Egerton previously told Collider about collaborating with Lehane on Black Bird, “with somebody like Dennis, who is in the big leagues, it’s just like if acting’s turning up to a fight, it’s like being given all the best weapons, you’ve got these incredible tools.” He said that “Dennis is the kind of writing where you want to speak it as you’re reading it, if you are con if you are being presented with an offer to play one of his characters, because the words are so great. They just feel like they’re just so great. It’s so lean, Dennis’ writing is in no way fatty, and it’s so active as well. It’s language being used rather than just describing. I loved working with him.”

Other works by Lehane include HBO’s The Outsider, Netflix’s Bloodline, and Audience’s Mr. Mercedes.

As of right now, no release date has been announced for Firebug’s premiere. In the meantime, fans are encouraged to watch Egerton and Lehane’s Black Bird, which is available on Apple TV+.
