Big Season Three Finale Cliffhanger Brings Forth ‘Yellowjackets’ Season Four Renewal

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Yellowjackets is coming back for a fourth season! This hit Paramount+ series, created by Bart Nickerson, co-executive producer of Dispatches from Elsewhere co-producer of Narcos: Mexico, and Ashley Lyle, writer of The OriginalsDispatches from Elsewhere, and Narcos: Mexico. It was renewed after a season three finale of important discoveries and cliffhangers. The audience is sitting on the edge of their seats while production dates are yet to be announced. 

According to The Hollywood Reporter, season three started streaming on April 11 and became available on the Showtime cable channel two days later. Within the first seven days, the season finale had three million viewers across different platforms worldwide, becoming Paramount+’s most-watched season finale. 

THR reports Chris McCarthy, the co-CEO of Paramount Global and President of the Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios states that Yellowjackets “has become a cultural juggernaut, with season three shattering all previous records.” Show creators Ashley and Bart “masterfully crafted an utterly singular, genre-defying phenomenon — a perfect alchemy of psychological horror, survival thriller and coming-of-age drama that continues to captivate audiences worldwide, brought to life by our extraordinarily talented and beloved cast.”

The series is a coming-of-age survival story of a high school female soccer team who suffered a plane crash in the remote wilderness, via The Hollywood Reporter. It is a combination of narratives from the past and present, and the finale was left on a big note of revelation that answered many important questions, such as the identity of the “Pit Girl” from the first episode, and it ended on cliffhangers in both timelines. According to showrunners Lyle, Jonathan Lisco, executive producer and showrunner of Animal Kingdom and Halt and Catch Fire, and Nickerson, this season was the darkest one so far.

The large cast playing the older, present-time, characters in the show include Melanie Lynskey, known for Togetherness and Heavenly Creatures, Christina Ricci, known for The Addams Family and Casper, Tawny Cypress, known for House of Cards and The Blacklist, Lauren Ambrose, known for Six Feet Under, Warren Kole, known for The Terminal List, Steven Krueger, known for The Originals, Sarah Desjardins, known for The Night Agent and Impulse, Simone Kessellknown for Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Elijah Wood, known for The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. 

The cast playing the younger, flashback version of the characters include Sophie Nélisse, known for The Book Thief, Jasmin Savoy Brown, known for her roles in the Scream  franchise, Samantha Hanratty, known for Shameless, Sophie Thatcher, known for The Heretic and The Boogeyman, Kevin Alves, known for Locke & Key, Courtney Eaton, known for Mad Max: Fury Road, and Liv Hewson, known for Santa Clarita Diet. Guest stars include Hilary Swank, known for Million Dollar Baby, Joel McHale, television host of The Soup, Nelson Franklin, known for New Girl and The Office, and Ashley Sutton, known for Monsters

The series is produced by Paramount Global Content Distribution, and produced for Showtime by Lionsgate Television. It is executive produced by Lyle, Nickerson and Lisco, alongside Drew Comins of Creative Engine, executive producer of All the Old Knives, with Jeff W. Byrd, director of Book of Love: The Definitive Reason Why Men Are Dogs, Ameni Rozsa, producer of The Sandman, Brad Van Arragon, executive producer of Allegiance, and Sarah L. Thompson, co-executive producer of Bridgerton.
