Tubi will premiere the new comedy series Big Mood, and Lydia West (It’s A Sin, Inside Man, The Pentavarate) and Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton, Derry Girls, Harlots) will be the main characters, Deadline reports exclusively.
According to Deadline, Big Mood focuses on the story of two best friends, Eddie (West) and Maggie (Coughlan), who have been through thick and thin since they were kids. Unfortunately, despite growing older, they have not become any wiser. Their careers are currently on the verge of failing, and as Maggie’s bipolar disorder comes back, Eddie has to decide if their friendship can still go strong as it did ten years earlier.
Adam Lewinson (Life After Film School, American Horror Story Hotel, Casting Session), Chief Content Officer of Tubi, shared his thoughts on the show in an exclusive interview with Deadline. “Big Mood is a powerful series that is unapologetically authentic. In the hands of creator Camilla Whitehill (Porters, Bruised Sky, Slay Me) and director Rebecca Asher (Donnie Darko, Knocked Up, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy), Nicola and Lydia give beautifully painful and comedic portrayals that are rooted in truth. With the much-welcomed addition of Big Mood to our slate of relevant comedies, Tubi is doubling down on content that appeals to our fastest-growing segment of young and diverse viewers.”
“I’m ecstatic that Big Mood will soon be arriving stateside with Tubi, although I’m also partially convinced it’s a prank played by a cabal of my enemies because it seems quite a lot too good to be true,” Whitehill agreed, via Deadline. “I’m hoping America loves it, and that they name an airport after me, which is way more likely over there because they have more airports than us.”
This show will have six episodes in total. According to Deadline, it’s produced by Fremantle’s Dancing Ledge Productions. Executive producers are by Laurence Bowen (My Life as a Popat, Suburban Shootout, The Responder), Chris Carey (Les Misérables, Apple Tree Yard, River) for Dancing Ledge Productions and Lotte Beasley Mestriner. The production was held by Georgie Fallon (Under the Skin, Blitz, Killer Elite). Lauren Evans (Sex Education, Fifteen-Love, Paddington Two) is the casting director for the show.
Big Mood is set to be released on Tubi this April.
