It would seems that Disney+ is giving one of their notorious streaming stumbles a high-stakes second chance and a major redesign. According to Screenrant, the platform has officially greenlit a new animated TV series project, which will be heavily based on Eoin Colfer’s (Luna Minor, Juniper’s Christmas), Artemis Fowl, in which the plot follows the 13 year old titular character, who discovered an undisclosed world inhabited by technology advanced fairies. Artemis seeks to find a cure to help to heal his dying mother and to save his family.
Reported by Screenrant, Colfer, who will serve as one of the series’ executive producers, issued a statement expressing complete confidence in the team’s ability to bring the enchanting fairy world to life on screen, “I am proud and delighted to be part of the formidable team that is putting the ‘Artemis Fowl’ animation on screen. Everyone is so talented and so positive that I feel certain the fairy world is in excellent hands.” The new animated project was seen by many to be a replacement for Harry Potter, with the tow series having following a similar format focusing a young male protagonist that is flung into unknown and mystical world.
