In conjunction with her 99th birthday yesterday, actress Betty White (Golden Girls) has announced that her long-unseen series entitled Pet Set will debut on digital platforms and DVD on February 23, according to Deadline. The show, created and starring White, aired from 1971-1972 and was cancelled when its sponsor, the Carnation Company, began allocating its advertising budget to commercials instead of programming. Several fellow actors and actresses took to social media to wish White a “Happy Birthday.”
The talk show would feature White and a guest star who would present their pets, discuss the animal, then “transition to a segment on a select species,” as Deadline reports. The show would conclude with White standing by wild animal, including a Bengal Tiger, a Black Bear, or an Asian Elephant. White announced, “If I haven’t told you already, I will now. The Pet Set is one of my favorite shows. I’m thrilled it’s going to be seen again after all these years,” via Deadline.
Over the years, White has won several Emmy Awards from her work on iconic shows such as The Golden Girls, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and Hot In Cleveland. The DVD special will include a behind-the-scenes look at the series and original promotional spots.
