Free Bert, the comedy series from Bert Kreischer (The Shield, The Machine), has been renewed for a second season at Netflix. The longline for season one is as follows: “Kreischer—shirtless comedian, party legend, perpetual wildcard—finds himself in uncharted territory when his daughters are accepted to an elite Beverly Hills private school. When his unbridled antics turn his family into outcasts, he decides to “put on a shirt” and stifle his true nature to better fit in.”

According to Deadline, Kreschier stars in the show alongside Arden Myrin (The Righteous Gemstones, Insatiable), Ava Ryan (Yo GabbaGabbaLand), and Lilou Lang. Showrunners Jarrad Paul (The Grinder, Yes Man) and Andy Mogel (Huge In France, Yes Man) released a joint statement about the renewal: “We’re incredibly grateful to Netflix for believing in this show and giving us the chance to continue the freeing of Bert.”

Deadline has reported that season one premiered in January and achieved solid ratings, reaching the global top ten. Kreischer is perhaps most known for his podcast with Tom Segura (Instant Family, Bad Thoughts), 2 Bears, 1 Cave. A description for the podcast from the YMH studios website is as follows. 

“2 bears, 1 cave is one of the top comedy podcasts in the world hosted by best friends and stand up comics Bert Kreischer and tom segura. every week they get together, share stories and laugh – usually about something ridiculous or improbable that bert said. they talk a lot of sh*t and challenge each other over everything, but ultimately they really are besties. plus bert is fat.”

This is not Kreischer’s first collaboration with Netflix in the world of scripted programming. He previously produced and starred in a film titled The Machine, based on Kreischer’s comedy work. The film received a moderate to lackluster critical response with a 5.7 on IMDb, 31 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, and 37 percent on Metacritic. 

According to Deadline, season two of Free Bert will continue to film in Atlanta, Georgia. The series is part of a fairly crowded Netflix comedy slate. Dan Levy’s (Schitt’s Creek, Good Grief)  new series, The Four Season’s, and season three of the massive hit Nobody Wants This headline the group.
