According to Variety, BBC Studios and UKTV have commissioned the crime drama We Hunt Together for UKTV’s Alibi channel. The commission is the newest addition to UKTV’s growing collection of scripted series, which also includes dramedy Flack, starring Oscar-winner Anna Paquin. In February, Flack aired on Pop in the U.S. and debuted on UKTV’s W channel in the U.K. Last October, Sharon Horgan and Lorna Martin’s comedy Women on the Verge starring Kerry Condon and Nina Sosanya also aired on W.
According to Deadline, Gaby Hull (Cheat) has written the six-part psychological thriller which begins with the collision of two people; Babeni (Baba), former child soldier “desperate to suppress his predisposition for violence, and Freddy, a magnetic and disarmingly charming free spirit.” When Baba rescues Freddy from an attack following a date gone wrong, something sinister ignites in them and they become killers. The series also follows two detectives DI Lola Franks and DCI Jackson Reid as they try to outwit the killers, despite their different outlooks on the blameworthiness of the criminal mind. According to Variety, “the show explores the dangerous power of desire and questions who is really to blame when the damaged do damage.”
The show was commissioned by drama commissioner Philippa Collie-Cousins, head of scripted Pete Thornton, Richard Watsham, director of commissioning and Adrian Wills, general manager, Drama, and Lifestyle, Deadline reports. Collie-Cousins said: “I was so gripped by Gaby’s writing, We Hunt Together is fresh, funny and dark roller coaster ride with filmic undertones that provide echoes of early Hitchcock or Tony Scott’s True Romance and takes the genre one step further. Hilary Salmon and the truly brilliant team that she has put together are a joy to work with and it’s very exciting to be making this show with them.” “It’s fantastic to be working with Gaby and UKTV on this daring new drama about what happens when two damaged people collide and act out dormant compulsions. It promises to explore the intoxication of sexual attraction and the dangerous power of emotional manipulation, not one for the faint-hearted,” Hilary Salmon, Executive Producer BBC Studios added.
According to Variety, the series will be executive produced by Hilary Salmon for BBC Studios, together with Anne Pivcevic and Esther Springer. Director and cast have not been yet announced. We Hunt Together will air on the Alibi channel in 2020. BBC Studios will handle international distribution. According to TV Drama, BBC Studios Director of Drama Martin Rakusen added: “We set out with Philippa to discover distinctive, compelling stories to be told and produced by the best of U.K. talent. I’m thrilled that we’re continuing to surpass our ambitions and to be working with such a brilliant team in bringing We Hunt Together to both the U.K. and our international audiences.”
