Created by Tom Edge (You Don’t Know Me, C.B. Strike), Vigil first premiered in August 2021. The second season of the police procedural series is set to air on December 10th. According to Deadline, in anticipation of the second season, a trailer has been released.
The trailer, which can be viewed below, depicts the use of drone warfare. This differs from the first season of Vigil, which was set on a Royal Navy submarine.
Vigil focuses on Detective Amy Silva, played by Suranne Jones (Gentleman Jack, Doctor Foster), and her partner Detective Kirsten Longacre, played by Rose Leslie (The Last Witch Hunter, Game of Thrones), as they investigate unusual happenings, including disappearances.
The second season also introduces Romola Garai (Emma, Becoming Elizabeth), Dougray Scott (Enigma, Mission: Impossible 2), Chris Jenks (Sex Education, Miracle Workers), Amir-El Masry (Limbo, The State), and more.
The series is produced by World Productions. As Deadline notes, executive producers Simon Heath (Line of Duty, Bodyguard) and Jake Lushington (The North London Book of the Dead, The Last Enemy), previously stated, “We’re excited to be taking the Silva & Longacre investigative partnership into a very different part of the British military, high in the skies rather than deep underwater. We’re also delighted to welcome to the cast two brilliant actors we’ve worked with on previous World shows, Romola Garai and Dougray Scott.”
According to Deadline, BBC Director of Drama Lindsay Salt (The Damned United, Strike Back) explained, “Vigil series one took the country by storm, and I could not be more excited for BBC viewers to find out what comes next.”
She continued, “With a highly original mystery and a richly fascinating new world for Silva and Longacre to explore, this is blockbuster television with brains as well as brawn.”
As fans wait for season two, the first season of Vigil can be streamed on Peacock.
