After wrapping up its first season on BBC and Epix, BBC has unveiled that its original series SAS Rogue Heroes has been renewed for a second installment, according to Deadline. From the mind of Peaky Blinders’ creator Steven Knight (Locke), SAS Rogue Heroes premiered its first season consisting of six hour long episodes on October 30, 2022. Knight serves as the series’ creator as well as an executive producer and is joined by director Tom Shankland (The Missing).
SAS Rogue Heroes centers on the World War II campaign through the lens of the British and the Special Air Service, or the SAS. The historical drama series began with following this branch of the military’s formation during the Western Desert Campaign which saw the British and Allied forces take on the Axis powers in parts of North Africa in Egypt and Libya. Based on novel by Ben Macintyre, the series features the likes of Jack O’Connell (Unbroken, Skins) as Paddy Mayne in additional to Connor Swindells (Sex Education) as David Stirling and Aflie Allen (Game of Thrones) as Jock Lewes. Additional players in the series includes the likes of Dominic West (The Wire, The Crown), Amir El-Masry (Limbo), Sofia Boutella (Star Trek Beyond), Tom Glynn-Carney (Dunkirk, House of the Dragon), and Theo Barklem-Biggs (Silk, EastEnders).
As a BBC original series, SAS Rogue Heroes was a commercial hit in the United Kingdom with 3.8 million viewers on launch date, via Deadline. The wartime show’s success has been coupled with being picked up by Epix for the United States audience. Currently, it is not known if Epix will continue to air the second installment of the series for American audiences.
