According to Deadline, the BBC show Line of Duty has been given the green light for a seventh season. Martin Compston (The Revenge Club, The Aftermath), Vicky McClure (This is England, Redemption), and Adrian Dunbar (The Crying Game, Hear My Song) will reprise their roles after a five-year hiatus from the last season. In 2012, Line of Duty began its life on BBC Two and quickly grew a large following. In 2016, Line of Duty switched to BBC One and gained even more viewership.

The new season seven starts out with the AC-12 division being disbanded, only to be reformed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to Deadline. Compston plays Steve Arnott; McClure portrays character Kate Fleming; and Dunbar plays Ted Hastings. These three detectives are assigned to the most sensitive case yet – a decorative detective, Inspector Dominic Gough, using his public clout to act as a sexual predator. But could his crimes be a cover-up for a larger conspiracy?

According to Deadline, Jennie Darnell (EastEnders, Payback) has been named as the director of season seven, while Ken Horn (The Diplomat, Showtrial) will produce. The EPs for season seven will be Jed Mercurio (Bodyguard, Bodies) and Simon Heath (Save Me, Bodyguard) for World Productions and Nick Lambon (Blue Lights, The Gold) for the BBC.

“Everyone involved in Line of Duty feels enormous gratitude to the show’s fans,” Mercurio said in a statement via Deadline. “We’re privileged to have had so many of you follow the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn’t be more delighted to be returning for a seventh.”

Deadline lists the sixth season finale as the most-watched British drama episode. It famously delivered the season-long answer of who “H” was: DS Ian Buckells, played by actor Nigel Boyal  (Peaky Blinders, Small Axe). Heath told Deadline back in 2022, “For fans of the show, [the ending] made perfect sense.”

Deadline mentioned that Line of Duty can be viewed on a few different streaming platforms such as BritBox, Hulu and Acorn TV.
