BBC Brings In Danish Crime Drama ‘DNA’

BBC has acquired the Danish-French crime thriller series DNA according to The Hollywood Reporter. Danish writer Torleif Hoppe (Those Who Kill) shaped this series around Rolf Larson (Anders W. Berthelsen, The Killing) a Copenhagen detective aimlessly searching for his lost daughter, who discovers the flaws in the Danish DNA system after five years and lands a new lead. Larsen teams up with a French detective, Claire Bobin (Charlotte Rampling) to discover an international child trafficking ring linked to his daughter’s disappearance. The series is in 8 parts and premiered in 2019 from Newen Distribution.

“Beginning with a shocking event, DNA is an intriguing and unexpected crime series which will keep BBC viewers absorbed to the very end,” said head of programme acquisition, Sue Deeks according to Variety.

Along with Berthelsen the series stars Poland’s rising actress Zofia Wichlacz (World on Fire) as Julita, Nicolas Bro (Adam’s Apple) as Jarl Skaubo, Olivia Joof (The Elite) as Neel, along with Charlotte Rampling (DexterBroadchurch) as Claire Bobin, the French detective. Rampling is a seasoned actress and has received an Academy Award nomination for her performance in 45 Years, the Andrew Haigh (Weekend) 2015 drama.

DNA is produced by Nordisk Film Production and Frenchkiss Pictures, with the help of TV2 in Denmark and Arte France. Newen Distribution is selling the show worldwide. BBC will be airing the series later this year.
