The gangster period series Peaky Blinders will wrap up its run after releasing its sixth and final season, according to Deadline. Airing on BBC One and Netflix, Peaky Blinders has risen in popularity and has received critical acclaim over the run of five seasons such as winning a Best Drama Series award from BAFTA TV for its fourth season. The series has consisted of six-episode seasons, totaling 30 episodes across its run. The upcoming sixth season has begun the filming process and production recently.
Peaky Blinders centers on the Shelby family in Birmingham, England following World War I as they establish themselves as a new gangster family in the region, led by the second oldest son Tommy Shelby. The series cast features Cillian Murphy (The Dark Knight, 28 Days Later) as Tommy Shelby with Hene McCrory (Skyfall) as Polly, Paul Anderson (The Revenant) as Arthur Shelby, Sophie Rundle (Jamestown) as Ada Thorne, Natasha O’Keeffe (Misfits) as Lizzie Shelby, Finn Cole (Animal Kingdom) as Michael Gray, Harry Kirton (We Can Be Heroes) as Finn Shelby, Tom Hardy (Legend, Dunkirk) as Alfie Solomons and many more.
The series is created by Steven Knight (Locke) who commented on the upcoming season and the show’s conclusion, giving fans hope for the future of the story world they have grown attached to. “We believe this will be the best series of all and are sure that our amazing fans will love it,” said Knight via Deadline. “While the TV series will be coming to an end, the story will continue in another from.” Despite hinting at the continuation of the story created by the series, there was no further insight regarding what this may entail.
