BBC America Renews ‘Orphan Black’ for a Final Fifth Season

BBC America has confirmed that the sci-fi thriller will return for a fifth season that sees the conclusion of the story for Sarah Manning (Tatiana Maslany) and her wide assortment of clones.

The series revolves around Sarah Manning as she discovers she is a part of a scientific movement entitled Neolution that is under the belief that through the process of cloning, humanity can gain the necessary scientific knowledge to directly influence their evolution. After discovering that she is a clone herself, Sarah must now run from the police and a religious group intent on killing her while trying to discover her origins and what exactly is going on with these clones.

The finale for season 4 of Orphan Black is set to premiere tonight but BBC America has decided to give fans some peace of mind with the knowledge that the show will provide another 10 episodes worth of content in 2017 and satisfy everyone’s desire to see a fitting end to the award winning show.

BBC America’s president Sarah Barnett called Orphan Black a “thrilling, genre-bending ride that has captured our fans’ imaginations and hearts like no other show.” Barnett also praised the “genius team of actors, writers and producers” for taking fans “to a place of awe, delight and utter shock and surprise. We can’t wait to take our incredibly passionate audience on one final gobsmacking clone adventure.”

Co-creators of the show John Fawcett and Graeme Manson stated that they were “excited to deliver an epic conclusion to the tale of Sarah and her clone sisters. The past four seasons have been a phenomenal adventure and we are eternally grateful to our loyal fans who have loved the twists and thrills of our weird little show.” They also stated they were grateful for getting “the opportunity to end on a high.”

Lead Actress Tatiana Maslany has received high praise from Executive Producers David Fortier and Ivan Schneeberg for her performance on the show, as well as from co-creators Fawcett and Manson. Maslany has received multiple awards for her performance, including the Critics Choice Television award for best actress in a drama series and the Young Hollywood Award for breakthrough female performance. Orphan Black has also received several awards, including a Peabody Award in 2014.

There has been no official date set for the premiere of season 5, but for the fans who are eager to stay up to date with Sarah and her clones be sure to tune in tonight, June 16, to see the conclusion of season 4 of Orphan Black.
