One of Batman’s key allies will be heading to the CW this fall. Victoria Cartegena (Manifest) will join the third season of Batwoman as Renee Montoya, according to Deadline. She previously portrayed the character in Fox’s Gotham and will be reprising the role in the Arrowverse series.
Renee Montoya is a recurring character within the Batman comics. She is a former Gotham police officer who leaves the GCPD frustrated at its growing corruption. She is an LGBTQ+ character who makes it her mission to rid the streets of Gotham of crime by whatever means possible. The character previously appeared in the 2020 DCEU film, Birds of Prey, played by Rosie Perez (Do the Right Thing).
The season 2 finale of Batwoman saw Ryan Wilder (Javicia Leslie) fully taking on the Batwoman persona while Kate Kane searched for her long-lost cousin, Bruce Wayne. Ryan also found out that her biological mother, who was once believed to be dead, is actually alive.
Cartegena will join Javicia Leslie (God Friended Me) as the titular role, Rachel Skarsten (Reign), Meagan Tandy (Teen Wolf), Nicole Kang (Ten Minutes to Midnight), and Camrus Johnson (The Sun is Also a Star). Dougray Scott (Mission: Impossible 2), who played Kate Kane’s father Jacob Kane, recently left the cast after its second season. Robin Givens (Boomerang) will join the third season as Jada Jet, a powerful CEO forced to give up her firstborn. Kate Kane is not expected to appear in the third season.
Cartegena shared her excitement in joining the series, via Twitter, when retweeting Deadline’s tweet of the news.
Batwoman is produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros Television. The third season will premiere on October 13 on The CW.
