The Batwoman executive producers and cast – except Batwoman, herself, Ruby Rose – were present at the series panel for San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend. Fans were given a little more bit of details as to what to expect for the upcoming show on The CW.
Series executive producer Caroline Dries made it clear that no villains from the Arrowverse crossover would have an appearance on Batwoman. Her reasoning for this comes down to the matter of creating a fresh take for the heroine. However, there is one villain fans would be familiar with from the Batman comics, Tommy Elliot aka Hush. An origin story for Elliot will be developed throughout the first season.
Hush’s presence, of course, had fans questioning whether or not Batman would be on the show.
“Anything is possible,” Dries said. “Everyone in the room knows how strict Warner Bros. is with the Batman property.”
Batman is Batwoman’s cousin and mentor, therefore, Batman will be mentioned when she slowly starts to encompass the female caped crusader.
“He continues to be a big part of the conversation… Kate is trying to get out of his shadow,” Dries said. “She sees him as a mentor. I thought it’d be cool if one day she opens her journal and she sees a letter from him and is wondering how that got there.”
The level of responsibility and trust is detected by fans as Kate Kane’s Batwoman is the main focus of this story. The idea is to have her become a hero in her own right without Batman by her side. The producers wanted to give the heroine a chance to grow on-screen and be someone that fans can root for.
“I think there’s so much fun to have without him, not that I’m not a big fan,” executive producer Sarah Schechter explained.
Batwoman premieres on The CW Sunday, October 6.
