Awkward showrunner Lauren Iungerich will not be returning after season 3.
After 3 season on MTV’s popular teen dramedy, Iungerich has decided to leave the show due to personal and professional reasons. According to Huffington Post, MTV describes the split at “mutual”. Season 3 airs its second half starting in October. After the season wraps up, the show will be under new management, and will certainly be different. Three months ago, she exited her buzzy MTV comedy pilot Hot Mess and the network decided to not go forward with the show.
“Awkward is a wonderful series and we appreciate the creativity and devotion Lauren brought to this show. We wish her the best in her new ventures,” Susanne Daniels, president of programming at MTV, said in a statement.
MTV is currently looking for a new showrunner to head up season 4 of Awkward.
