

Apple TV+ has officially greenlit their sci-fi comedy series, Murderbot, for a second season, hours before its season one finale drops. According to Deadline, the sci-fi series is based on the Martha Wells’ (Rogue Protocol, Witch King) novella of the same name and follows the journey of a self- aware security robot, played by Alexander Skarsgård (The Northman, Infinity Pool), who wants to be left alone to watch soap operas, but forced to protect a team of scientists from dangerous forces.
According to Deadline, the other members that joined Skarsgård within the series are Noma Dumezweni (The Watcher, Retribution), David Dastmalchian (The Suicide Squad, Rosario), Sabrina Wu (Abbott Elementary, Joy Ride), Akshay Khanna (Chhaava, Taal), Tattiawna Jones (Strange Empire, Tru Love) and Tamara Podemski (Outer Range, Coroner). Viewers will undoubtedly meet new characters in the upcoming season, with whom both the robot and the crew will interact.
According to Deadline, the series creators, Chris (The Golden Compass, Rogue One) and Paul Weitz (American Pie, Off Centre), made a statement on Thursday surrounding,”We’re so grateful for the response that Murderbot has received, and delighted that we’re getting to go back to Martha Wells’ world to work with Alexander, Apple, CBS Studios and the rest of the team.”
Furthermore, the head of programming of Apple TV, Matt Cherniss added his own words about the series renewal with Deadline,”Chris, Paul, Alexander and the entire Murderbot team have delivered a brilliantly original, addictive, witty and vibrant adaptation that has captured the imagination of audiences everywhere. We can’t wait to unveil what’s next for Murderbot and, of course, ‘Sanctuary Moon’ in season two.”
