The new Australian drama series, The Dark Lake, will be executive produced by actress Phoebe Tonkin (The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, H2O: Just Add Water), Deadline reports. The series is officially based on the novel of the same name, written by Sarah Bailey (Into the Night, Where the Dead Go, Body of Lies).
The show is produced, according to Deadline, by Brouhaha Entertainment, which has also created the Australian Netflix drama named Boy Swallows Universe, in which Tonkin stars in. While executive producing, Tonkin will also star in The Dark Lake.
The show’s storyline, according to Deadline, focuses on Gemma, an important detective, who, because of secrets arising, will have to fight against her past. That happens because there is a murder in which the girl she was enemies with in high school lost her life. This is all located in a small town where the detective lives.
According to Deadline, the Dark Lake is the third book of the Gemma Woodstock series, as Bailey is completing the production and writing of the fourth book. The other two books for this franchise are named Where the Dead Go, which its location is a coastal town in a hinterland community, and Into The Night, which is located into a Melbourne crime-filled community.
According to Deadline, Brouhaha Entertainment is developing with the author of the books, which is Bailey, to bring the book to life on TV screens. The screenwriter for this project is Becca Johnstone (Addition, Ascent, Most Admired Woman).
Tonkin’s most popular projects are Babylon, The Originals, The Vampire Diaries, Boy Swallows Universe and Safe Harbour. Furthermore, in Boy Swallows Universe, which is an Australian series streaming on Netflix since last month, Tonkin portrays mother and a drug-addict in recovery with the help of rehab, via Deadline.
The Dark Lake doesn’t have a production or premiere date yet.
