According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wolf Creek, a psychological thriller will debut on the U.S. television network.
The series marks the third-ever scripted series with a six-part miniseries on Pop network. Wolf Creek is based on the cult classic film and the show originally aired in Australia. The upcoming horror series stars John Jarratt and Lucy Fry. Jarratt will reprise his movie role as the psychotic serial killer Mick Taylor, who causes torment in the Australian Outback. However, in the television version, a 19-year-old American college student, portrayed by Fry, survives after the crazed murderer massacres her parents and little brother. In response, the young student is filled with anger and does whatever she can to hunt him down and avenge her fallen family.
Greg McLean, the executive producer of the series stated “Wolf Creek is holy !#@$! Scary! The television series delivers the same pulse-pounding tension and terror of the films combined with a storyline that evolves into a suspense-filled, character-driven psychological thriller. In many ways, Wolf Creek is more like a Western — set in the untamed, desolate landscape of the Australian Outback, with gritty characters and an immersive story of revenge and good versus evil.”
Brad Schwartz, president of Pop added “Wolf Creek is a binge-worthy, premium revenge tale that we are thrilled to bring fans at the perfect time of the year. “To turn everything you expect from a horror film around and hunt the psychopath through a strong and singularly-focused female protagonist is thrilling to watch. It is probably the scariest series to ever premiere on basic cable and will have viewers hooked 13:40 minutes into the first episode.”
The series will kick off by showing an American family on vacation in Northern Australia. But little do they know, they are being watched by Mick Taylor, a sadistic serial killer who enjoys murdering tourists in the Outback. Eve Thorogood, the sole survivor then vows to bring the killer to justice even if that means she has to die trying to get that to happen. Wolf creek will also show her extraordinary journey as she transforms from prey (child) to predator (adult).
Lionsgate Television and Zodiak Rights will produce the series in association with Emu Creek Pictures and funded with the help of Screen Australia and the South Australian Film Corporation.
Watch the Wolf Creek on Friday, October 14.
