It was just announced that Arty Froushan (House of Dragon, Strike Back) will have a major role in Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: Born Again. According to Comicbook.com, Froushan was seen with Vincent D’Onofrio (Full Metal Jacket, Men in Black) near the Daredevil: Born Again New York City set. They go on to confirm that he has joined the cast for the new series.
Daredevil: Born Again is a reboot of the Netflix show, Daredevil (2015). This newest series would be produced by Marvel Studios and would be aired on its parent company’s streaming service, Disney+. According to Deadline, Froushan has been cast in “major role” that would complement D’Onofrio and Charlie Cox (Daredevil, Spider-Man: No Way Home). The site further reports that Froushan would star as Harry, who is described as a main character and an associate of crime boss Wilson Fisk (D’Onofrio). This season will see the crime boss run for New York City Mayor.
As many fans expect, Cox would reprise his role as charismatic lawyer Matt Murdock, and vigilante Daredevil. This will be his fourth franchise appearance after Netflix’s Daredevil, Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022). D’Onofrio is set to reprise his role as the main villain, Wilson Fisk, aka. The Kingpin of Crime, after starring in Hawkeye (2021) on Disney+. The Netflix series ran for three seasons before being canceled in November 2018 due to Disney and Netflix severing ties. via. Deadline.
This comes after the former showrunner for Netflix’s Daredevil, Erik Oleson (Carnival Row, The Man in the High Castle) said in an interview, “We used pieces of Born Again on our season. I still call [Daredevil: Born Again] season 4, but they’re trying to insist it isn’t. So I’ll go along with whatever they want to call it.” via. Screenrant.
More cast members include Sandrine Holt (House of Cards, Mr. Robot), who will star as Vanessa Fisk. She would replace Ayelet Zurer (Munich, Man of Steel) who portrayed Vanessa on Netflix’s Daredevil. Jon Bernthal (The Wolf of Wall Street, Baby Driver) is set to reprise his role from both Netflix’s Daredevil and The Punisher as Frank Castle. More cast members include Michael Gandolfini (The Many Saints of Newark, The Deuce), Margarita Levieva (The Lincoln Lawyer,The Deuce), Nikki M. James (BrainDead, Severance), and Michael Gaston (Prison Break, The Leftovers).
It was also announced that Michael Cuesta (Homeland, City on a Hill) will direct the pilot for the new series.
D’Onofrio spoke with ComicBook.com and mentioned how this new series “is going to be very, very different than the Netflix show, and it’s so exciting because what we’re doing is quite something…And, by the second season, there are gigantic, gigantic payoffs — in the first season, too, but I can’t say much about that — but the fans are gonna really get what they want. It’s really quite cool to be doing it.”
Not much is known for the release date, but it is confirmed that the 18-episode series will be split into two parts representing different seasons. It is speculated by fans that Disney+ would release the series in early 2024. Many are looking forward to seeing what might be coming next.
