According to Deadline, the star of the first show in the CW’s Arrowverse will return for one last time. Stephen Amell (Code 8, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows), who played Oliver Queen in Arrow, will be reprising his role in the ninth episode of the final season of The Flash.
Amell took to Instagram to announce the news, posting an old photo featuring himself and co-star Grant Gustin (Rescued by Ruby, Glee).
Gustin stars as Barry Allen. The character was first introduced in season two of Arrow before moving on to become the hero of Central City in The Flash. Since then, the CW has grown within the Arrow universe, adding several spinoff shows like Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow, which have also been cancelled.
Eric Wallace (Teen Wolf, Z Nation) serves as executive producer of the show. Via Deadline, he describes the decision to include Amell: “As soon as our final season was announced, we knew we wanted Stephen to come back and reprise his iconic role as Oliver Queen. After all, it was Oliver who originally launched Barry Allen on his heroic path. That’s why everyone on Team Flash felt so strongly that it was important to create a full-circle moment with Oliver’s return in the final season of The Flash. The result is an epic-yet-emotional episode we hope Arrowverse fans will enjoy. It’s all to say ‘thank you’ to everyone for watching and supporting our show throughout nine wonderful years. We absolutely cannot wait for everyone to see Grant and Stephen saving the world together again. And yes, there will be thrills, chills and tears.”
Amell is not the only star to reprise his role on The Flash. He is joined by David Ramsey (Arrow, Pay It Forward), Keiynan Lonsdale (Love, Simon; The Divergent Series: Insurgent), and Sendhil Ramamurthy (The Slammin’ Salmon, Covert Affairs).
The ninth and final season of The Flash will air on Wednesday, February 8, on The CW and will comprise of 13 episodes.
