“Arrested Development” Soundtrack In The Works

“Getaway, getaway…stay away, stay away…” Those are some of the lyrics to Mark Cherry’s surprisingly catchy “Getaway”, a song featured throughout the fourth season of Arrested Development—one that will be expanded into a full-length studio version for the show’s soundtrack, currently in the works.

Composer David Schwartz said last week that the soundtrack will include both songs and score from the series’ four-season run. “There are hundreds of pieces [to choose from], but I think I’ve cut it down to 40 or 50 so far,” Schwartz told TVGuide. Another piece that listeners can expect is a medley of songs from the show’s “Fantastic Four” knockoff musical, also featured in season four.

“The joke of that is, for a composer, it’s always a challenge of how can we make bad music in some way fun and likable? That’s always your evil plan,” Schwartz said about the show’s original songs, particularly “Getaway”. He has also stated that he is “glad it has some fans out there.”

Currently, the plan is for the soundtrack to be made available via iTunes, though Schwartz would also like to see it released on vinyl. In the meantime, a longer version of “Getaway” (co-written with Gabriel Mann, who also provides vocals for the track) is available here.
