After playing private investigator Kalinda Sharma for six seasons on CBS’ The Good Wife, Archie Panjabi has landed a new role. According to Entertainment Weekly, Panjabi has landed a recurring role on NBC’s breakout hit, Blindspot.
Panjabi will portray the head of a previously unknown division of the NSA that has been investigating Jane Doe (Jaimie Alexander).
Blindspot centers around Jane Doe, a woman who appears in Times Square in New York City with no memories and tattoos covering her body. The FBI soon learns that the tattoos on her body have clues that will help them solve various mysteries and crimes. The first season was extremely successful and was the number one new show of the season and was one of the few new shows that stood out among the other new shows across the networks.
TVLine confirmed Blindspot‘s renewal back in November, officially making it the first new show of the 2015-2016 television season to be renewed.
For six years, Panjabi played Kalinda Sharma, the mysterious private investigator on The Good Wife. She was friends with Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) in the first two seasons before Alicia found out she slept with Peter before she joined the Lockhart Gardner law firm. While the two made up on-screen, there were rumors of tension between the two actresses off-screen, which came to a head in the season six finale, which was Panjabi’s last appearance on the show.
When fans saw their final scene, they pointed out that something seemed off about the scene, even going as far to question whether or not they shot the scene together. CBS also defended their actions and said the scene was “very satisfying,” according to E! Online.
Besides her role in The Good Wife, Panjabi was cast in The Jury, an anthology series for ABC, but it wasn’t picked up for the most recent television season. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it is being redeveloped in the hopes of the new pilot getting picked up. She also plays Professor Reed Smith in The Fall and had a guest starring role on Fox’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine as Lieutenant Singh.
For her role as Kalinda, Panjabi was nominated for a Primetime Emmy in 2010, 2011 and 2012 and she won in 2010.
Blindspot returns for its second season on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 10 p.m. The show moves to 8 p.m. on Sept. 21 after The Voice finishes its auditions.
