The British Apple TV+ comedy, Trying, was renewed for its third season, with its second installment set to debut in May, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Starring Esther Smith (Cuckoo) and Rafe Spall (The Ritual), the series follows a working-class couple navigating the unfamiliar world of adoption, which isn’t quite as simple as they had hoped.
The second season of Trying is slated to center around Nikki, played by Smith, and Jason, played by Spall, as they continue through adoption with the help of social worker Penny, played by Imelda Staunton (Vera Drake). The couple had finally been accepted by an adoption board, and thinking that the worst is behind them, they discover that they still have a ways to go in order to adopt a child. Generally receiving positive reviews, Trying did receive a mixed-critic from The Hollywood Reporter‘s Robyn Bahr, who claimed that the series “is sensitive and raw when it’s not trying so hard to be sexy and cute.”
Ophelia Lovibond (Mr. Popper’s Penguins), Oliver Chris (NT Live: Twelfth Night), Sian Brooke (The Moorside), Darren Boyd (Spy), and Robyn Cara (We Die Young) will revive their roles for the upcoming season. Executive produced by Andy Wolton (The Coopers vs. the Rest), Jim O’Hanlon (A Hundred Streets), and Josh Cole (Timewasters), Trying joins several Apple series such as Central Park, Servant, For All Mankind, and Ted Lasso in securing early third-season renewals prior to the debut of a second season.
The second season of Trying will be available on Apple TV+ in May while its third season is currently in the works. The official trailer for the show’s debut season can be watched below:
