Apple TV+ has renewed its comedic mystery series, The Afterparty, for a sophomore season just before the season finale debuts on Friday, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The series stars Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip) as Detective Danner.
Told through multiple different points of view, and filmed in the style of genres like romantic comedy, action, musical and thriller, The Afterparty follows Danner as she attempts to expose a murderer at a high school reunion. The first season starred Sam Richardson (Detroiters), Ike Barinholtz (The Mindy Project), Illana Glazer (Broad City), Jamie Demetriou (Stath Lets Flats), Dave Franco (Now You See Me), Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation) and Zoë Chao (Love Life). However, the upcoming season will feature a brand new set of suspects for Danner to study.
The series was created and directed by Chris Miller (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse), who said he came up with the multiple-genre idea by building up the show from a murder mystery, then assigning the respective genre to each character. No new information about the upcoming season has been revealed yet, but the finale for the show’s debut season will launch Friday.
