Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Author Rufi Thorpe (Everyone’s Happy, The Girls from Corona Del Mar) and created by multi-Emmy Award winner David E. Kelley (Chicago Hope, The Lincoln Lawyer) of A24, Margo’s Got Money Troubles follows aspiring writer and recent college dropout Margo Millet (Elle Fanning; Maleficent, Predator: Badlands) as she struggles to support herself and an unanticipated baby while seeing her parents with new eyes – her estranged ex-pro wrestler father Jinx Millet (Nick Offerman; Fargo, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) and former Hooters waitress mother Shyanne (Michelle Pfeiffer; Batman Returns, Hairspray).
Additional cast, via Apple TV Press, include Rapper Rico Nasty, Lindsey Normington (Anora, The Idol), Michael Angarano (Will & Grace, Oppenheimer), Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden (The First Wives Club, So Help Me Todd), and Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award winner Greg Kinnear (You’ve Got Mail, Heaven Is for Real).
As stated by Apple TV Press, series stars Fanning and Pfeiffer will be executive producing alongside Brittany Kahan Ward (All the Bright Places, The Great) of Lewellen Pictures and creator Kelley. Also included as executive producers are Matthew Tinker (Big Little Lies, The Undoing) for David E. Kelley Productions and Nicole Kidman (Practical Magic, Moulin Rouge!) and Per Saari (Trespass, Monte Carlo) of Blossom Films. Eva Anderson (Briarpatch, You’re the Worst), Boo Killebrew (Mrs. America, Lessons in Chemistry), and author Thorpe are also credited as EPs. Additional directors include Alice Seabright (Pregnant Pause, Chloe) and Kate Herron (Loki, Sex Education).
Margo’s Got Money Troubles is the second collaboration between Kelley and Apple TV in which he has served as creator, writer, showrunner, and executive producer.
