Apple TV+’s Horror Drama ‘The Changeling’ Adds Four Cast Members

The upcoming Apple TV+ horror series, The Changeling, has added four new cast members in recurring roles. As reported by Deadline, actors Jared Abrahamson (Ramy), Malcolm Barrett (Genius: Aretha), Alexis Louder (Watchmen), and Amirah Vann (Queen Sugar) join Academy Award-nominee Lakeith Stanfield (Atlanta, Judas and the Black Messiah) in the series. Barrett will play Patrice Green, book enthusiast and best friend of Stanfield’s character, Apollo; Louder joins as Lillian Kagwa, secretive mother of Apollo, and Vann is Kim Valentine, Apollo’s sister-in-law.

Stanfield will lead The Changeling alongside Clark Backo (Station Eleven, Letterkenny) and Emmy-nominee Adina Porter (American Horror Story, Underground). Singer Samuel T. Herring of the band Future Island will also make his acting debut in the horror series. Creative forces behind The Changeling include Kelly Marcel (Saving Mr. Banks), who serves as showrunner and writer, and Emmy-nominee Melina Matsoukas (Insecure), who will direct. Marcel, Matsoukas, and Stanfield all serve as executive producers on the project.

The Changeling is an adaptation of Victor LaValle’s fantasy novel of the same name, which received an American Book Award in 2018. LaValle will also serve as co-executive producer on the series. A television adaptation of the book was initially in development at FX, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, but was later scrapped at the network and revamped for Apple TV+ in 2021. Annapurna Television has obtained the rights since 2017 and is now co-producing the series with Apple Studios. Annapurna’s recent television productions include Showtime’s I Love That For You, HBO Max’s The Staircase, Hulu’s Pam and Tommy, and HBO’s The Plot Against America.

Local journalists reported The Changeling filming on location in Hoboken, NJ, in May. Apple TV+ has yet to confirm a release date for the series.
