Apple TV+ to Produce Spy Drama ‘Slow Horses’ Starring Gary Oldman

Earlier today, news broke that Gary Oldman will be starring in a new spy drama series from Apple TV+. The series, titled Slow Horses, will be executive produced by Graham Yost, previously of Justified.

The series Slow Horses will be based on the series of novels of the same name by author Mick Herron. The story follows Jackson Lamb, the leader of a group of British spies who are exiled for their mistakes, and are sent to the MI5’s dumping ground called the Slough House. Gary Oldman will be playing the role of Jackson Lamb. Oldman is no stranger to the spy thriller genre, having been nominated for an Oscar for his performance in the 2012 film Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Oldman is also an understandable casting choice for this distinctly British series, considering his 2017 Oscar win for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour.

Slow Horses will be written by Will Smith, who has previously written for shows such as Veep and The Thick of It. Yost will executive produce the series as part of his overall deal with Apple TV+ that he signed earlier this year. This is just one of many overall deals key creators have signed with streaming platforms this year. Slow Horses will also be produced by the production company See-Saw Films, known for Top of the Lake and State of the Union.

This new spy series is the latest to join the lineup at the recently launched Apple TV+. The initial launch of Apple TV+ at the top of this month received some mixed reviews, with The Morning Show and Dickinson becoming the standout series. All of the series at launch, including the less well-reviewed series See and For All Mankind, have been renewed for a second season on Apple TV+. An Apple TV+ subscription is currently about $5/month, making it one of the cheaper streaming platforms currently available.
