Apple TV+ Renews ‘The Mosquito Coast’ For Second Season

The Mosquito Coast has been renewed by Apple TV+ for a second season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. News of the show’s renewal comes just days before the first season’s finale, which is scheduled for June 4. Based on the 1981 novel by Paul Theroux, the series stars the author’s nephew, Justin Theroux (The Leftovers), and Melissa George (Hunted).

The Mosquito Coast, which was released on a weekly basis during its first season, follows the Fox family, who uproot their lives and move to Mexico after they find themselves running from the U.S. government. “The Mosquito Coast has captured the imagination of viewers all over the world, not only because of its adrenaline-fueled action and adventure but also for the engaging family story and captivating performances at its heart,” head of programming for Apple Matt Cherniss said in a statement. “We can’t wait to find out what comes next for the Fox family, and for audiences to continue to experience the thrill ride,” via The Hollywood Reporter

Alongside Theroux, who plays the role of Allie Fox, George plays Margot, Allie’s wife, while Logan Polish (The Astronaut Farmer) and Gabriel Bateman (Unhinged) play their kids. Kimberly Elise (Set It Off), James LeGros (Point Break), and Ofelia Medina (Frida Still Life) also star. The Mosquito Coast received overall mixed reviews from critics, with one citing that “some episodes are solid enough to stand on their own, though they lose all narrative and thematic connection to Theroux’s novel. Mixed blessings,” per The Hollywood Reporter

The upcoming season one finale will premiere this week.
