According to The Hollywood Reporter, Apple TV has renewed horror comedy Widow’s Bay for a second season. This season announcement comes almost a week before the conclusion of the first season; the finale is scheduled for June 17.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that the streamer also signed the creator of the series, Katie Dippold (Parks and Recreation, The Heat), to a multiyear overall deal. She will continue to serve as showrunner of the series, as well as evolving new projects.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, the series has earned a massive amount of praise over the course of its first season. Dippold said that the series has been in her he for nearly 20 years an almost sold a version of it to Amazon in 2013. “I just had this bad feeling,” she said. “I put a pin in it. I just knew it wasn’t ready. I knew I hadn’t thought enough about the show or the world.”
Widow’s Bay follows Tom Loftis, the pragmatic, widowed mayor of a remote, cursed New England island. The cast of the series includes Matthews Rhys (The Americans, The Wingfeather Saga) as Tom Loftis, Kate O’Flynn (Everyone Else Burns, My Lady Jane) as Patricia, Kevin Carroll (Road House, Being John Malkovich) as Bechir, Dale Dickey (Dutton Ranch, Fallout) as Rosemary, Kingston Rumi Southwick (Based On True Story, 9 Full Moons) as Evan, Stephen Root as Wyck and many others.
“From the moment audiences arrived in Widow’s Bay, they’ve been hooked on every eerie mystery, unexpected laughs, and cursed secret that Katie, Hiro, Matthew, and the entire team have created,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV via The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s become one of those shows everyone’s talking about, and we’re thrilled to see audiences continue to embrace it. We can’t wait to return for another season.”
Widow’s Bay is available to stream on Apple TV.
