Apple TV+ Orders Eight-Part London Thriller ‘Criminal Record’ Starring Peter Capaldi And Cush Jumbo

Apple TV+ has ordered an eight-part London thriller series titled Criminal Record, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The series will star Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who) and Cush Jumbo (The Good Wife) and is being created by Paul Rutman (Indian Summers).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series is already in production and is being produced by Tod Productions and STV Studios. The upcoming series’ executive producers include Capaldi, Jumbo, and Elaine Collins (Shetland).

Apple describes Criminal Record as a “powerful, character-driven thriller set in the heart of contemporary London,” the show sees an anonymous phone call draw two brilliant detectives into a confrontation over an old murder case: one a young woman in the early stages of her career; the other, a well-connected man determined to protect his legacy. The series touches on issues of race, institutional failure and the quest to find common ground in a polarized Britain,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Capaldi will star as Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty and Jumbo will star as Detective Sergeant June Lenker. It is currently unclear as to who else will be cast in the series.

Capaldi is a one-time Oscar winner as well as a two-time BAFTA awards winner. In 1995, Capaldi won the Oscar for Best Short Film, Live Action for Franz Kafka’s It’s A Wonderful Life. He also won the BAFTA Award for Best Short Film in 1994 for the same film. He won his second BAFTA Award in 2010 for Best Male Performance In A Comedy Role for The Thick Of It. He has received four other nominations at the BAFTA Awards. Capaldi also received a win for Best Acting Performance In Film at the 2009 Scotland BAFTA Awards for In The Loop. 

Jumbo has received one award nomination in her career, which was Best Supporting Actress In A Drama Series for The Good Fight at the 2018 Critics Choice Awards.
