Apple TV+ Cancels Crime Drama ‘City On Fire’ After One Season

The first season of the crime drama City on Fire consisted of eight episodes, which premiered weekly beginning on May 12th. The series was based on the novel City on Fire by Garth Risk Hallberg (A Field Guide to the North American Family, The Penny: A Little History of Luck). According to Deadline, Apple TV+ chose not to renew this series for a second season.

Created by Josh Schwartz (The O.C., Looking for Alaska) and Stephanie Savage (Runaways, Nancy Drew), the first season of City on Fire focuses on a murder investigation. A student attending New York University named Samantha Yeung, played by Chase Sui Wonders (Bodies Bodies Bodies, Generation), was murdered in Central Park. Her death becomes linked to other town happenings, including a mysterious pattern of fires.

Other stars of the series include Wyatt Oleff (It, I Am Not Okay With This) as Charlie, Nico Tortorella (The Following, The Walking Dead: World Beyond) as William, Jemima Kirke (Girls, Conversations with Friends) as Regan, Max Milner (The Dirt, The Voice UK) as Nicky, Ashley Zukerman (Fear Street Part Three: 1666, The Lost Symbol) as Keith, Alexandra Doke (Hart of the Wild Bunch, Psycho BFF) as Sewer, and more.

At the same time as City on Fire was released, Apple TV+ was also home to the hit series Silo and Hijack. Deadline notes that the news about City on Fire‘s cancellation may not have been a surprise to many as this series received less buzz than other series.

Additionally, Deadline provides some solace to fans by explaining how the first season of the series covers the plot of the first novel. This means that, although the series is not renewed for a second season, there are not too many questions left unanswered.

Nonetheless, news of City on Fire‘s cancellation still comes as a disappointment for fans of this Apple TV+ series.
