Apple TV+ Cancels Comedy Series ‘The Big Door Prize’ After Two Seasons

According to Deadline, Apple TV+ decided to cancel the comedy television series, The Big Door Prize, after two seasons. Even though the series received an early renewal for season two in April 2023, the final episode, which aired on June 12, ended on a cliffhanger, leaving fans without a proper resolution.

The series is set in a small town called Deerfield, where a mysterious machine, Morpho, appears out of nowhere in the general store and acts as a fortune teller, revealing to each resident what the future holds for them. High school teacher Dusty Hubbard questions his own happiness as he observes his peers interact with the mysterious machine and reassess their life choices. At the same time, though, Dusty is wary of the machine whereas his wife, Cass, is more open to the machine’s promises, dreaming about the possibility of something bigger and better for her life. Before the machine’s arrival, the people of Deerfield lived safe and uncomplicated lives. But now, the Morpho machine makes the community confront their unrealized aspirations. This leads them to pursue new ambitions and potentially better futures, causing significant changes in their lives.

Chris O’Dowd (Moone Boy, Big Mouth) plays the protagonist Dusty while Gabrielle Dennis (A Black Lady Sketch Show, Luke Cage) portrays Dusty’s wife, Cass. The series also features Ally Maki (Toy Story 4, Wrecked), Josh Segarra (Trainwreck, Abbott Elementary), Damon Gupton (Whiplash, Bates Motel), Crystal Fox (The Haves and the Have Nots, Big Little Lies) and Djouliet Amara (Devil in Ohio, Guilty Party).

The Big Door Prize was created by David West Read (Schitt’s Creek, Of Murder and Memory), who also served as executive producer alongside David Ellison (Top Gun: Maverick, Reacher), Dana Goldberg (I Am Legend, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan), Miky Lee (Parasite, The Handmaiden), Young Kyu Kim (The Glory, Mr. Sunshine) and Bill Bost (World War Z, Grace and Frankie).
