Apple TV+’s original television content library continues to grow as Jason Momoa’s (Aquaman) original series Chief of War has revealed that Temuera Morrison (The Mandalorian) will be joining the cast, via Deadline. The streaming series will star Momoa who is also on board as the series co-creator and executive producer. Morrison will reunite with Momoa from their father and son casting on the DC Aquaman films.
Chief of War is an upcoming eight episode series on the Apple streaming platform that will center on the colonization of Hawaii, but rather from the perspective of the indigenous inhabitants of the chain of islands in the pacific. Much of the show’s details are being kept under wraps at the moment, but Morrison’s casting is specified to feature the New Zealand actor as the King of Maui in King Kahekili. Meanwhile, Momoa’s role has not yet been publicly announced by Apple TV+ at the moment.
Alongside Momoa, Thomas Pa’a Sibbett (Braven) will serve as the series’ co-creator as well in addition to executive producing Chief of War. Additional executive producers on the original program include the likes of Peter Chernin (St. Vincent), Jenno Topping (Hidden Figures), Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), Justin Chon (Twilight), who will serve as a director for the first two episodes, and Doug Jung (Star Trek Beyond) who doubles down as the showrunner.
Currently, there is no expected release date for Chief of War, but the project does add Momoa’s involvement with Apple TV+ with his original series See, which just concluded its first season on October 14.
